BIO.
Theatre was the one thing that both of my ambitious, professional, super divorced parents both slowed down to appreciate. I saw its power. When I started to get leading roles, it became a nightmare arranging it so they wouldn’t have to be in the same room, but ever since I was Peter Pan in fourth grade, imploring the audience to applaud and believe in Tink, I've been “hooked.”
Having worked professionally for over a decade, directing, teaching, acting, making films, I have observed that the stories that find expression don't always reflect the richness of our diversity.
This gap led me to throw myself into every aspect of storytelling, from directing and producing feature films, to writing my own plays to feature strong female talent and address ignorance in the media and in our communities. My play, (and stage-to-film adaptation) Longview, TX featured 5 3-dimensional female leads, and was inspired by the Mexican side of my family who had grown up amidst racism. They're also the women who taught me not to take anyone's crap. Now that I'm at Columbia studying directing, I am finding the stories that broaden human representation.
I have a wealth of visual vocabulary to attain specificity in my work. I've examined the relationship between a live medium and a filmed one. Being half-Mexican and half-Hungarian I've found that depth of colors and textures help me give meaning to characters and space.
As a leader on set, or in the theatre, I have a clear and unpretentious way of breaking down scripts into beats and intentions. I help more physical actors reach their potential with an outside-in approach, and my nurturing side blooms when I'm trusted by a sensitive actor.
