Female Inspiration: Yang jiang7/3/2017 Anna met Yang jiang at a speaker series called “The New Narrative”, where a range of people from all walks of life share their stories and visions for the future. She learned that Yang’s future narrative remains subject to some twists and turns. Yang is taking a PhD in Leadership at The University of San Diego as she explores her options in performance and art. Anna conceived a photoshoot for Yang to put her at the centre of a creative experience, variously situating her as model, performance artist and artwork. While the first two photos showcase Yang’s innate modelling skills and photogenic features, the last one gives her the opportunity to interact with other piece of art (a painting also by Anna Rebek) to construct a mixed media performance piece. Indeed, at one point, Yang captures the essential qualities of the faces in the painting so acutely that she appears to be disappearing into it. Her pose of strength and defiance seems to turn the camera on itself. It’s a full 360-degree reversal of her objectification. Anna’s photoshoot is not simply Yang’s induction into a career in performance and visual art. It is also an expression of the evolution of her soul as an artist and thinker: “I am beginning to feel that the small part of me is but a very surface part of me-- beyond that is a depth that is infinite and connected to the Source, the original place of endless divine power and love, and it is this that I now begin to place my deepest trust in and pull from.”
