Photos of The Trojan Women Final Dress Rehearsal by the incomparable Charles Vidal
Joins us for a brand new, searing adaptation of Euripides' famous play The Trojan Women, directed and created by Anna Rebek (Yale, Columbia, Juilliard). Set in the Mediterranean haven of Casa Clara (218 East 25th St), audiences will be just inches away from some of the most harrowing events in all of classical tragedy. The show opens just after the mythical violence of the Trojan War (Homer's Iliad, Virgil's Aeneid) when all the women of Troy have been rounded up only to be split off as prizes to their Greek conquerors. Lead by their former queen Hecuba, these women experience the devastation of being a conquered people. This production resonates with the current state of our world at war, and highlights how often our humanity is the cost of victory, as women and children continue to suffer the greatest consequences.
With large scale masks, a new score by composer Zachary Detrick (Juilliard, Peabody), and costumes by Brynne Oster-Bainnson (NYU), the audio-visual world of the play will be transporting. Come experience this masterpiece brought to life as never before.

Set in the ancient city of ROME (our enchanting event space, ROSA 386, seen above) - under the burning stars on a backyard terrace, and proceeding into a plush interior for intimate scenes, join us for site-specific night of Shakespeare to remember.
Having secured a fresh victory against their neighbor Pompey, Julius Caesar returns to a tumultuous Rome. His two close advisors, Brutus and Cassius, worry Caesar has turned from a leader to a God, and that Rome will fall under the arrogance of one man. They assemble a group of conspirators to corner and slay this great Caesar, believing they will save their beloved republic.
When Mary Antony finds the fallen Caesar, he gives one of the greatest speeches ever written to turn the people of Rome against the murdering conspirators. Once that match is lit, Rome burns, and the mob drives them out, killing innocents in their path.
A great war is waged, allegiances crumble, a ghost comes for a visit, and as with all the tragedies, great women and men fall.
Run time 2 hours and 15 minutes.
The audience will be guided by cast members to move between the large back courtyard of the event space into the interior for intimate scenes, and back again. The exterior has seating for all audience members, the interior has limited seating for those who require seating and upon request.
In the event of light rain, tents will be put up to protect the audience, and the show will continue. In the event of other outdoor issues, the show will be rescheduled.

About Your Guide - Anna Rebek
Anna has studied Shakespeare both as an undergrad at Yale, and also for her MFA in directing @ Columbia with Brian Kulick. Anna directed her first full length King Lear, with esteemed dramaturg Emily Boyd Dahab, @ The Brick in the summer of 2018. She then helped adapt and directed Mary V, a feminist adaptation of Henry V for Fringe NYC (see press article below). She then cut a 90 minute Tempest with double casting and performed it in her classroom as the sun set with a real swinging hammock! Anna spent a week as AD helping cut Measure for Measure for the Public Theater for LA Williams' Mobile Shakespeare unit. In short, Anna is a Shakespeare nerd, and wants to work with other Shakespeare nerds.
